My Fabulous Birthday

My birthday was yesterday! I tell you, there is nothing like waking up on your birthday and experiencing all the fun and excitement that was carefully and lovingly planned. The weather couldn't have been better because it was an absolutely gorgeous day. The fam went out of their way to make my birthday better than ever and it was truly amazing. Honestly, it felt like Christmas morning to me because I received so many lovely gifts. I had such a blast! Now before I begin, I'll have to warn you. This post is picture heavy, but I want to tell the whole story and not leave anything out. With that said, here are some pictures from yesterday and I hope you enjoy them.

My daughters are always so creative and they both surprised me by making me beautiful DIY cards.

I loved the cute little cupcake surprise inside.

This card is from my youngest and I loved all those pretty butterflies.

In case you're wondering about the picture in the center. That's me trying to look sexy, but that picture was taken about 6 years ago.
There were so many gifts that I couldn't even get everything in the shot all at once. Besides what you see, I also received an outfit which I wore that day and a pretty plate covered in spring flowers.

This card and the beautiful roses are from hubby.

For dinner, we ate at The Cheesecake Factory in Columbia, Maryland.

These were some of the different dishes that was ordered... Avocado eggrolls and stuffed mushrooms which is to the right of the eggrolls.

I don't remember what type of tacos these were, but that was red beans and rice shown in the front.

I had a factory combination which was herb crusted salmon over broccoli, mashed potatoes and shrimp scampi. It was so yummy.

Of course, I had the hardest time choosing which type of cheesecake I wanted to devour afterwards.

I finally decided on the tiramisu cheesecake and I was happily serenaded by our waitress and three other wonderful servers.

Can you tell what's written on the plate in chocolate syrup? I thought that was pretty cool.

After dinner, it was just starting to get dark. Even though the weather was suddenly breezy, we still enjoyed a nice walk around Columbia Lake.

Whew! I think that's it! Honestly, I feel so much joy right now. I am thrilled, happy, over the moon and profoundly grateful to God for my family who went out of their way to make little ol' me feel so very special because this was a birthday celebration I'll never forget.

Acknowledge your past successes. You’ll then be more confident in taking on new challenges, and you’ll be more likely to accomplish them.
Peace & Blessings,
Our Journey to Balance

I love that the weather has been warming up, although it has been a little breezy. Most days, if it's not raining, I open all the windows and let the air freshen the apartment. It also feels so good to be able to sit outside again and read my bible in the mornings.

My oldest daughter was happy to finally receive her refund, so she treated us to dinner out this week. We always pass by this restaurant on the way to Hobby Lobby and it was nice that we were finally able to stop in for dinner.
I had a variety of delicious foods, salmon, chicken and broccoli, lo mein, a spring roll and dumplings. It's a lot, I know, but portion sizes always go out the window when I'm at a buffet. That's why I don't go often.
I also hung out at my daughter's apartment a couple of nights ago. I didn't want to go empty handed so I baked a lemon, blueberry yogurt cake to take with me.
It was good and really moist. This was another Pinterest recipe, by the way. I made this cake twice last year and I just knew that I'd probably make it again in the Spring.
Well I hope you enjoyed your week and I'm wishing you a lovely weekend.

April Morning

Do you still own a typewriter? What a cool way to write someone a letter!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend. I really enjoyed mine. Sunday, I went to church with the family then we came home and had a nice dinner. Since sweet potato pie is one of those desserts that my family loves to eat year round, I made sure it was on the menu for dessert. We had pie while we were watching A.D. The Bible that night.

Today, my youngest daughter spent the whole day with me. We were having the last couple slices of pie and watching movies on Netflix when I had an idea.

Me: "Hey, let's do a DIY project today."
My daughter: "Okay."
Me: "Don't you want to know what kind of project I have in mind?"
My daughter: "What is it?"
Me: "Let's do another sharpie mug, but this time with a paint marker."
My daughter: "Sounds good."

For the past couple of years, I've been seeing sharpie mugs all over Pinterest. Every time I saw them, I thought that I should totally try that! A few months ago, I did finally make a DIY mug of my own. I thought it turned out pretty good. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that the plain regular sharpie markers do not work for this project. I should have used an oil based Sharpie paint marker instead. Even though I avoided putting the mug in the dishwasher, it began to fade after several hand washings. This is what the mug looked like when I first made it.

This is what it looks like now... :(
Today, I'm going to try making another DIY sharpie mug with my daughter, but this time, we're using a paint marker. They cost a little more than a regular magic marker, but I found a Sharpie oil based paint marker at Walmart for only $2.64. The mugs were also found at Walmart for only 88 cents. My daughter decided to do her name with stickers, but she had to keep readjusting them to get the letters straight. Once she peeled the stickers off, it turned out great.
A first, I wasn't exactly sure what to do with my cup since I'm not an artist, but I tried to draw a bird that seemed kind of easy. We baked our cups in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
I added a little message on the inside of my mug, too. It's just another thing that will put a smile on my face when I'm enjoying my last sip of coffee in the mornings, or when I'm having tea at night.
If you're interested in trying this project, you can follow the link below to get step by step instructions:

Just remember, if you want your design to stay put, use a paint marker. Well, I'm about to get dinner started so, I will catch up with all of you later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by.

Just Checking In

This is a short post, but I just wanted to say a quick hello. I've really been looking forward to April and now, it's finally here! April is a great month to enjoy the beginning of the warm season. It's also filled with quite a few days to celebrate, like Easter, April Fool's Day, Earth Day and towards the end of the month, my birthday.

Oh and here's an update. Some of you may already be aware of  this, but for those of you who are new to this blog, I stopped eating meat on January 1st. It was a challenge that I accepted from my daughters and it was supposed to be for 90 days. Now, I would love to be able to tell everyone that I passed that challenge with flying colors, but that wasn't my story. My youngest daughter didn't make it either. We did really good for a while, but I guess our cravings got the best of us. I am pleased to say that my oldest daughter is still going strong and she plans to continue her vegetarian journey until the end of the year.

With that said, I wanted to share a recipe that I discovered on Pinterest. It is Chicken Parmesan Casserole and I made it for my family last night. It was also a big hit... Score! I forgot to take a picture of it since dinner was a little later than normal and everybody was ready to eat. I will share the link. I love the wonderful video that's also included with step by step instructions. If you decide to try it, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Wishing you all a delightful week.
