10 Random Things About Me

Good Morning! U: Good Morning! U

Today, I thought it’d be nice to do a post that would help you to get to know me better. I love learning a little more about the ladies behind my favorite blogs, so I’m hoping that you’ll enjoy reading these little facts about me, too, So, here we go...

My Guilty Pleasure is Chocolate chip cookies. I will take chocolate chip cookies any day over cake, pie, candy and ice-cream, (although I enjoy those desserts, too).

I can juggle fruit. I can't do more than three oranges or apples at a time, but I can do it.

Cooking is my therapy. I love turning on some good, relaxing music or watching something interesting on TV while I put together a favorite recipe. It relaxes me to chop, stir, and listen to it sizzle in the pan. It's even more fun when I put it all on a pretty plate for my family and friends to enjoy it. By the way, you can find the recipe for this creamy tortellini and spinach soup... Here.

If I were a crayon in a crayon box, I would be Navy Blue. I think it's such a pretty color. You know, I read somewhere that the color blue is sincere, reserved and quiet. It seeks peace and tranquility above everything else promoting both physical and mental relaxation., It reduces stress, creating a sense of calmness, relaxation and order... interesting!

I know the lyrics to about a thousand Songs from the 1970's, including songs from TV commercials and television shows. Some of you may remember this one.

 :

When I see Anything Funny like this, I'll think about it hours or days later and at the oddest times just when everybody else around me is very quiet. People always look at me and wonder what in the world I'm laughing at.

I can't resist going straight to the comic section when I read the Sunday newspaper. What can I say, I'm one of those people that prefers to hear the good news before the bad.

This might sound crazy, but I'm Terrified Of Losing My Memory. Haven't you ever heard of those people that slam their head too hard and the next thing you know, it's like... who am I? Where do I live? I mean, can you imagine your brain being wiped clean and forgetting absolutely everything you've ever known and forgetting everyone you love, including your children... your parents? It's such a scary thought.

I only paint my toenails, never my fingernails. I always admire the look of painted fingernails, but on me, they start chipping way too fast. I'm always washing my hands or they're in dishwater when I'm washing dishes or something. Unlike my toenails, polishing my finger nails just never last on me.

My name is Dee and I'm a bookoholic... it's true. I love books and the library has always been one of my favorite places to spend time, even as a small child. I can remember walking home some Saturday's with an armful of books that I just couldn't wait to get home to read. There's just something so completely awesome about being surrounded by millions of books. They're all alphabetized and stacked nice and neat on the shelves. They're like potato chips and I can never have just one. I always end up going back after two weeks to get extra time on the books that I haven't finished reading. Of course, while I'm there, I end up checking out at least one more. I have avoided the kindle like the plague because for me, it takes away the joy of actually stepping into a library, interacting with the friendly librarians who know me all to well and other people I might bump into, (even if it's a smile and a simple hello) and searching for that perfect book to get lost in.

Well, that's about it. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week... :)

  5. Great post! I too love chocolate chip cookies! My family gets annoyed with me because I always make them and they like to try different things!

I also love the color blue and I love to cook! And I love to read too! When I was growing up, the city built a brand new library not too far away from my house. I spent SO much time there checking out books! I still miss that library!

    Have a great week!

  7. Wonderful post, Dee, how lovely to get to know you better! I also love chocolate chip cookies, especially with a nice cold, fresh glass of milk! :)

  8. This was fun. I buy a lot of books, sadly I seldom read. I get a pedicure about every six weeks but do not do my finger nails. Yes memory loss is a concern of mine too. Always enjoyed that commercial. Have a great week!

  9. What a great post, Dee! It was fun learning more about you! I totally know where you're coming from when you say you're terrified of losing your memory! I have to let go of that anxiety to the Lord!
And I love books too and chic chip cookies though a square of Cadbury's chocolate is my ultimate treat!
    Have a great week!

  10. Oh I love this! Lol @ being able to joggle! That's a pretty cool thing to be able to do. I try but never succeed.

  11. Dee, I'm terrified of losing my memory too!! I guess for me that comes from seeing it happen to family members. I'll arm wrestle you for chocolate chip cookies any day of the week. :)

  12. Hi Dee!

I loved reading all about you, you are awesome! We have a lot in common, I also love to cook, love to read . . . real books, love to paint my toenails, and, I'm terrified of losing my memory! My favorite color is red, and I just avoid the newspaper all together. I would love to learn to juggle, but one thing about me . . . I'm a klutz, all the fruit would be slush!

    What a fun post!!

    Hugs,
    Barb

P.S. I've got to make that yummy soup!!

  13. This was so great to read :-). I never paint my fingernails either, only my toenails. And books, I love books, even how they smell! Thanks for sharing these facts about you!

  14. I can tell you're bookoholic when you write:) I enjoy reading your post and reading your blog has been my little guilty pleasure during my "unauthorized breaks" at work ^__^

  15. LOVED reading these facts about you. We have so many of them in common...."my bologna has a first name...it's O.S.C.A.R" I remember all of these things from the 70s. LOVE books...could spend days in a bookstore or library and I love the smell of books. Such a calming peaceful smell, especially cookbooks...love to cook also! YEP, afraid of losing my memory...I force myself to remember silly things so I won't forget other things and I panic when I can't remember the name of something...LOL Hugs and have a great evening!

  16. Dearest Dee, what a fun little post! And I must say that I have quite a bit in common with you {{smiles}} I, too, only paint my toe nails, but admire painted finger nails on other people. And a bookaholic...me too!

I love that you said cooking is your therapy. I think baking sweets would be mine...and then eating them! HA :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this post, Dee. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely week. Hugs!

  17. I really enjoyed reading these tidbits about you! I'm a bookoholic, too and love the library...and any bookstores, especially independent ones. And, like you, I don't have a Kindle or any other e-reader either...and I don't want one! No desire. I love holding a REAL book in my hands. I always have painted toenails in the summer, but never in winter since my feet are never exposed. Heck, I don't even see my toenails (except when I shower, of course). ;-) Right now my fingernails are painted a light pink, only because I was meeting up with a friend this weekend and got dressed up a little. This brand of nailpolish lasts the longest of any I've tried lately. It's Orly and I found it at TJ Maxx. I like it better than Essie or any of the other expensive brands.

  18. Dee, this was such a delightful post, and I enjoyed reading about you and getting to know you better. Oh my gosh, I clicked on the Oscar Meyer video and started singing it to the end. I remembered EVERY WORD! Funny how that happens. Your painted toenails look great, by the way. I so remember going to the library and picking out some books and taking them home to read. And chocolate chip cookies are one of my favs too. Oh Dee, I think we are kindred spirits for sure.

Oh, and the color BLUE suits you, my friend.

  19. Cute post Dee- I don't paint my finger nails for the same reason :-) I remember the Oscar Mayer jingle too and I love a good chocolate chip cookies too! Thank you for stopping by my blog and visiting!

  20. Hi Dee, Oh I just love this post. We have lots in common. I too enjoy cooking and the color blue is one of my all time favorites. I love wearing navy blue too.
Books are like breathing to me. I did the same thing as a child. We had a bookmobile that came around on Thursday afternoons after school. I would load up on books for the week and come home carrying all I could hold. LOL I remember most of the jingles from commercials too. Chocolate chips cookies are a favorite cookie of mine as well. What a fun post. Thanks for sharing and letting us learn a bit more about sweet you.
    Have a great week. xo

  22. We're similar in many ways, I spend hours in the kitchen, even though my kitchen is awkwardly placed in my home people who visit always comment that they can feel the heart of my home in the kitchen. I'm also a book addict and I never paint my finger nails for the same reasons :) Happy 2016 to you xx

  23. Dee, your post is lovely. What a guilty pleasure to know more about you. I do enjoying cooking, I love my quiet time too. Chocolate chip cookies are the best! Have you ever tried the polish from the salon that dries in a few minutes and actually stays on? Thanks for sharing more about you. xo

  24. OH, how special to get to know more about you, sweet Lady. I love posts like this. Happy Wednesday to you!

  25. That was very nice to read and get to know you better. I am very different and, yet have many things in common with you. P.S. ANYTHING sweet is my weakness.

  26. Hello Dee, I loved reading this post and feel that I now know you much better. I worry that one day public libraries will be no more . . . the internet and Kindle have truly slowed down my visits and I'm sure that is true of so many people. You have inspired me to dust off my library card and pay that lovely building a visit.
    Have a marvelous day!
    Connie :)
P.S. love those little chickens in the first photo, is that your kitchen?

  27. Awesome post! What are some of your favorite books?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Happy New Year, Dee! I certainly enjoyed this list ... not only to get to know you a little better, but the way in which you've 'fleshed out' your answers.

Navy blue's not necessarily a friend of mine, but it's description fits my SIL to a tee! (And yes, her home is mostly decorated in navy blue!)

  29. Hi Dee, What fun getting to know a little bit about you. Chocolate chip cookies! My husband would luuuuv you. He always used to bake his own because I never made them often enough for him. Now he just buys them. I too am a bookaholic. The library or the bookstore are two of my favorite places to hang out. And the jingles?! Girlfriend, we are on the same page. I can still hear my oldest (now 33) singing, "There's more for your life at Sears" when he was 3. I hope you are having a great week at your new job. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I made chocolate chips for years but now that the boys (and the ones they gave away to their friends) no longer live with me I seldom make them. We love our library. I do have a Kindle but prefer a real book! I don't enjoy cooking anymore. Maybe have done it for too many years! That blue house is beautiful. Is that yours? Nancy

  31. What a fun post! Not surprised that we have lots in common! "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese...." :) Would love to hear more about your favorite books.

  32. I enjoyed reading all about you, Dee, and learning some fun facts. I don't paint my fingernails, either, but do paint my toenails, like you. I love reading, also, and just finished a Rosamunde Pilcher book.

  33. Oh Dee, it was so sweet getting to know more about you...I love chocolate chip cookies too! Have a lovely day.

  34. I loved this, Dee. I love books too, and I don't like kindles or other devices for reading. Growing up that was my favorite cookie, because my mom's come out so well. Now I make an oatmeal with cranberry, because my daughter and spouse will eat them. That navy house is so elegant. Once I saw a navy room, I think in an Ethan Allen Catalogue, and it was so pretty, because the contrast between the walls and the white linens. And I don't paint my nails either for the same reason, and my daughter does not paint her except sometimes with clear, because they are not allowed in classical piano, because it gets on the keys. xoxo Su

  38. This was a lovely post Dee - I'm definitely a bookaholic too and I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes straight to the comics in newspapers - it's the best bit! - Tasha

  39. I really enjoyed this post, Dee! It was fun to learn more about you. Those chocolate chip cookies look delicious--so hard to resist! Neat that you can juggle fruit. I've never been good at that, but always enjoyed watching my father juggle oranges. Considering how much you like cooking, I think I would love to be around you. I'm not too great of a fan of cooking myself--I just do it to eat--I do enjoy eating good food! Blue is probably my favorite color too. The Oscar Mayer commercial is sweet. Love the little boy's smile; it makes me want to try some sandwich meat too. I had never heard the song. My father did introduce me to the "I wish I were an Oscar Mayer weiner" song from another commercial way back. It's always good, and I think, very healthful to smile and laugh, even if people have no idea why. UNI has a wonderful library full of awesome old books. My sister and I have checked out books that hadn't been checked out since the 1930s (or maybe even '20s; I don't recall.).
Again, loved this post. Thanks for sharing!

  40. We enjoy some of the same things Dee! Happy New Year!

  41. We've got a lot in common. Fingernails get painted rarely, toenails all the time -- though I'm letting them breathe this month. I love to cook -- and bake -- and books are taking over my apartment. I've been doing some deaccessioning of my books, so I can bring in a new batch. Happy 2016!

  42. I'm a bookaholic as well! And I agree about the kindle. People keep telling me that I would love it, but I just can't get into it. I like the feel of a book in my hands. And I love buying books. And I love to decide whether or not a book is bookshelf-worthy when I'm done reading it. I just don't think I would get that same feeling from reading on a kindle.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love your ten things! I'm also a bookaholic, but I do have a Kindle. I still prefer the book in hand. I also love navy blue and I like to cook. Your feet look way better than mine. :) I have polish on my fingers but not my toes, at least not in the winter. I use gel on my fingers and it lasts way better than regular.
    Have a good week!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I loved this! I'm not a fingernail painter either. I also chip them way too fast. I even got those gel nails once. They only lasted about five days. Haha. Thanks for sharing this!

    1. Chips no more! Try Perfect Formula's Manicure Booster or Manicure Keeper (1 base coat) or Orly's bonder (2 base coats). My nail polish lasts 7-20 days depending on the polish!

  45. Good Morning...Wonderful list. I too only paint my toenails. Working with paint everyday, I have found that if I get acrylic paint on fingernail polish it sticks and I would have to polish those nails every day.

  46. Yes, the 70's commercials were particularly good at brainwashing! I think they were more creative back then and much better at jingles. "Only you can prevent forest fires" pops into my head quite often. "Don't squeeze the Charmin" we use when giving our dog a hug, cause he makes this little sound like you are squeezing him and you can't help but give him a big squeezing hug, LOL. Oscar Myer, Tootsie Pop, Cola's teach the world to sing and Mikey all pop into my head from time to time. Brainwashing success! Where's the beef is another, but I think that was 80's.

  47. I'm so glad to "meet" you and learn that you're a fan of the 70's! :) Love your list and I always enjoy learning more about bloggers so thank you for sharing.

I'm a new follower and look forward to getting to know you better! Oh, and cooking/baking is like therapy for me too. I do love the feel of a book in my hands ~ just something special and heartwarming about that!

Stop by and say hi when you can ~

  48. So fun to learn 10 things about you! We have a lot in common...I only paint my toenails too! I love to cook and we could sing those 70's songs together. What a fun post! Hope your new year is bringing you fun new adventures. I'm catching up on my blogging and blog friends and trying to stay warm!

  49. oh good grief!
you know what I've been doing?
I saved your blog to my favorites bar and have been checking each day and it always was showing 'happy new year!'
FINALLY today I thought... surely dee has posted since then...
I scrolled down and sure enough!
and I LOVE this post dee. and... so MANY things are just like me too! the books and library part especially. and we could sing the oscar mayer song together!
and I ALWAYS read the comic section first. LOLOL.
hope you're still loving your new job.
this was such fun to read. and to know you better. XO♥

  50. I love chocolate chip cookies too! They are my go-to dessert as well :)
That's so cool that you can juggle! I have tried over the years, but I just can't get the hang of it.
I enjoy cooking too - it really can be relaxing! And it's a creative outlet - throw some stuff together and see what happens. I love watching my loved ones eat food I create and enjoy it. It's a wonderful feeling.
I also end up laughing at inopportune times (usually at work) and people stare at me too, haha.
And I don't want to lose my memory either. :(

  51. Well, now I know you HAVE to be my friend because I love chocolate cookies too! And the dough *sheepish grin*!
We did get a Kindle and I have a library app on my phone, but I don't use it like I thought I would. There's nothing like the feel of holding a good ol' book in my hand.

  54. Hi, Dee. You left some comments on my Well-Groomed Hippie blog so I headed on over to return the favor. It's fun to "meet" another Deanna. :) According to this post we have several other things in common. I adore homemade chocolate chip cookies and books. And like you, I only polish my toenails.

I don't post much on my "hippie blog" these days but if you'd like to keep up with me, check out LifeWithDee.com. I blog there daily. I look forward to getting to know you. Have a beautiful day.
